DoE Develops Flexible Glass Stronger Than Steel: [17 Jan 2011]“The Department of Energy Office of Science recently collaborated with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the California Institute of Technology to develop a resilient yet malleable new type of glass that is stronger than steel. The material can also be molded, and it bends when subjected to stress instead of shattering. The glass is actually a microalloy and features metallic elements such as palladium. This metal has a high ‘bulk-to-shear’ stiffness ratio that counteracts the intrinsic brittleness of glassy materials. The team that developed the material believes that by changing various ratios, they could make it even stronger.”[Slashdot]

In the fifth movie, Dwayne Johnson plays a Federal Agent who hunts down Dom and Brian, played by Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. David Duchovny’s Ended Play Abruptly After Stage Stunt Went Wrong: [16 Jan 2011] David Duchovny was forced to cut short the final scene of Neil Labute play The Break Of Noon after a flying stunt went wrong at a recent show, leaving him standing solo on stage. The X-Files actor has starred in the Off Broadway production, about a man who survives a horrific mass shooting, since October (10). The final act ends with a spotlight on the actor as theater goes black, and he mysteriously levitates above. But Duchovny was left awkwardly standing with his arms out, ready to be lifted, during one particularly embarrassing production. [The Mac Wire]
