Saturday
Vin blinked his sleep away and slowly he turned his head to one side, staring at Luna’s naked body. He frowned deeply as he fixed his gaze on her.
Luna sat Indian style at the edge of the bed, staring at the ring.
Mesmerized by its beauty, Luna turned her hand slightly under the rays of the sun. Almost immediately, the star came to view, shining, trapped inside of the black stone.
She had been so lost in thought that she didn’t notice that Vin wasn’t sleeping anymore. He kneeled on the bed and sat behind her on his heels, spreading his thighs.
“If you keep staring at it, you’re gonna break it, babydoll.” Vin mocked encircling her shoulders from behind.
She jumped startled and shook her head. His voice sounded hoarse and almost sleepy. Luna heaved a hard sigh closing her eyes, leaning her head back to make it rest against his shoulder.
“What’s going on, Luna?” Vin asked, concerned as he kissed her temple, lingering in his caress. His voice sounded unusually deep.
“I’m not sure if I should accept it, Mark.” She said, almost in a whisper, swallowing an invisible knot that had appeared from nowhere in her throat.
In response, Vin frowned deeply and tightened his embrace around her naked body.
“I thought you already did.” He whispered, brushing his stubby chin softly against her shoulder. Luna then took one of his hands and trapped it between hers, stroking it gently.
An unconscious whimper escaped her lips as she swallowed hard. She didn’t want to kill the mood, but she couldn’t deny the fact that she was going back to Spain the following afternoon.
Vin shut his eyes and tightened his embrace around her body. He knew that he had to pretend that everything was okay because if not he would break down and he wasn’t going to make Luna go through that shit. Not now and definitely not when she was about to leave him forever.
“Come on, babydoll. Val is waiting for us.” Vin said as he pushed her slightly with his chest, pulling Luna out of her thoughts one more time. “If we’re late that dork is not gonna leave any bread for us. I swear.” Vin mocked, fixing his gaze on the star, shining inside of the black stone.
Valentino had been talking with Vin for more than half an hour on the phone, trying to convince him that the three of them should have lunch together. He desperately wanted to see Luna before she left LA. Valentino needed to know something and he was more determined than ever to get what he wanted.
Finally, Vin gave up but with one condition; it had to be early. Valentino was like his own blood brother, but Vin wanted to spend as much time as possible with Luna alone. He definitely wasn’t in the mood for sharing her at all. Not even for a couple of hours with Valentino.
———————————–
They arrived at the restaurant in the SUV and Vin parked the vehicle at the other side of the entrance, a few blocks down the street.
When they were waiting to cross the street at the traffic light Vin encircled Luna’s shoulder with his arm as she circled his waist, putting her hand inside the back pocket of his jeans, gently stroking his bottom. Vin laughed and kissed her lips gently, just a peck.
Sully grinned while staring at the screen of his digital camera, pressing the button just at that right moment. Then he lit up a cigarette with the butt of the last one and continued capturing the show of affection that Vin Diesel and the mysterious woman were sharing while they were walking, oblivious to Sully.
They crossed the street laughing and went directly to the restaurant where Valentino was already waiting for them.
Vin entered the restaurant first, followed by Luna. Val was sitting at a table in a corner of the dining room. He was chewing a mouthful of bread, while reading the menu.
“Why didn’t you wait at the bar, drinking like everybody else, brother?” Vin teased, pretending to be annoyed.
Valentino put down the menu, grinning. Vin rolled his eyes and picked up the empty bread basket.
“You see? I told you.” He said looking at Luna. She fixed Val with a serious gaze, arching a brow. “All gone, babe.” Vin added as he looked back at Val.
In response, Val stood and went to Luna’s side.
“I was hungry and you were late.” Val replied as he looked at them frowning slightly. When they continued pretending that they were annoyed. Val raised his hands and rolled his eyes. “Great. Everybody against little Valentino, huh?” He pouted, pretending to be wounded. Luna giggled as Vin grinned. Val hugged Luna tightly, kissing her cheek. Luna laughed and hugged him back. “Hola, princesa.” (Hi, princess.) Val murmured against her ear.
“Hola, cielo.” (Hi, honey.) Luna said, stroking his back up and down. Vin knit a brow.
“You better watch your little hands, Valentino. I saw her first.” Vin said and went to Val’s side. Luna rolled her eyes, laughing softly.
Val let her go and grabbed Vin’s hand, encircling his shoulder with one arm. Vin mimicked him.
“Hi, bro” Vin said.
“Hi, man.” Val replied as he tapped his back, leaning down his head. “Are you ok?” He murmured. Vin let go of him and nodded yes. “Liar.” Val teased in a whisper, narrowing his eyes in suspicion.
Vin glanced at him from the corner of his eye as he slowly shook his head no, sighing hard, while Luna was looking down at something.
Val frowned and shook his head slightly, then fixed his gaze on Luna’s right hand and saw the ring. Val’s eyes opened wide and he arched his brows.
In response, Vin lifted a finger and pressed it against his lips, telling Val to keep silent, winking. Val rolled his eyes and nodded in agreement, grinning wickedly.
They sat at the table. Luna took the menu and started to look for the printed copy in Spanish.
“I’m starving.” Luna whimpered softly and fixed her gaze on the menu, reading the delicious meals written on it.
“Hey, Luna.” Val called her. Luna put down her menu and looked at him smiling. “What’s the matter, baby? Doesn’t Vin feed you or what?” Val mocked laughing, waggling his brows.
In response Vin knit a brow, staring at Luna waiting to hear what she was going to say.
Luna grinned evilly, dropping her voice to an impossibly sensual tone. “Quite the opposite, Valentino. He’s aaaaall ready to feed me 24/7, but you see, I’m insatiable.” Luna purred as she winked at Vin, laughing softly.
Vin rolled his eyes. He should have known that she was going to say something like this. Val laughed hard as he shook his head wildly.
“Can we order lunch, yet?” Vin asked, pretending to be annoyed as he winked at her, grinning.
They were talking and laughing almost through the entire lunch. From time to time, someone appeared beside them, asking Vin Diesel for his autograph. He always nodded, smiled and signed his autograph on napkins, t-shirts and even in a box of an indecently expensive pair of shoes.
Valentino used these occasions to share anecdotes about shootings and tales about their childhood in NY with Luna, feeling the serious gaze of Vin and knowing in advance that he should apologize to Vin later.
Luna was laughing while stroking Vin’s arm absently. Vin Diesel was paying attention to their conversation when he wasn’t signing for his fans.
Vin’s arm lay on the back of her chair and sometimes he would stroke her thigh up and down under the table. During the lunch they were exchanging gazes full of passion and desire.
All the time, Valentino was watching them, laughing silently, and making mental notes about each and every single detail of their display of affection.
When they were about to leave the restaurant, Valentino elbowed Vin, gesturing with his head to the entrance. Vin turned his head and found that at least five paparazzi were already waiting for them outside. Sully was one of them.
Cursing silently, Vin glanced at Luna and without a second thought he headed towards them.
Val used the chance to lead Luna through the kitchen and directly to the back door of the restaurant. But when they reached it, they found Mike already waiting for them.
As soon as Luna saw him, she lowered her head and fixed her gaze on the floor. Val cursed him silently and moving ahead of Luna, he took her hand in his. Luna sighed hard and squeezed Val’s hand. He grinned and started to walk with long strides directly to where the SUV was parked.
Mike tried to take a clear picture of Luna but Val was more than used to this kind of situations. After a few minutes, Mike gave up, muttering obscenities.
Checking the pictures on the screen of his camera, he realized that he couldn’t use any of them. On nearly all of the photos Valentino’s head, shoulders, or arms were covering Luna’s face.
Finally they reached the SUV. Luna opened the vehicle and got in, laughing while Val took a seat in the back.
“I always wanted to know what it would be like to have a bodyguard.” Luna teased as she continued laughing. Valentino laughed with her.
“I though we’d never get rid of that fucker, love.” Val replied as he looked at Vin who was still signing autographs at the other side of the street, posing with his fans.
Luna giggled and made herself comfortable in the driver’s seat, adjusting the mirrors and the seat to her size.
“Jesus! I didn’t know he was so famous. There are Vin Diesel fans all around him,” Luna said grinning.
Val chuckled at her words and then he turned his attention to Luna. There was something he wanted to ask her but he didn’t know exactly how. So after a moment of hesitation, Val took a deep breath and plunged ahead.
“Luna, ¿tú crees en el destino?” (Luna, do you believe in Fate?) He asked, frowning slightly. Luna’s grin died on her lips and slowly she lifted her head, holding Val’s gaze in the rear mirror.
“¿Me creerías si te dijese que esta semana no lo sé?” (Would you believe me if I told you that this week I don’t know?) She answered and turned her head to look at Vin Diesel who was surrounded by fans, smiling and talking with them.
Val took a deep breath as he moved forward, resting his hands upon the back of the front seat.
“I do. I blindly believe in Fate, Luna.” Val said as he cleared his throat. “I’ll tell you something about Fate. We’re at spot A and we have to go to spot B, ok?” He frowned deeply and then continued. “Of course, we’re going to find obstacles in our path but no matter how unavoidable those obstacles might seem to us, we’re gonna reach spot B, because it’s our fate, do you get me?” Valentino asked softly as he stroked Luna’s arm up and down.
Luna frowned deeply still staring at Vin. “How do you know where spot B is, and if you have reached it?” She asked in a whisper as she absently rolled the ring on her finger. In response, Val grinned.
“Sometimes the place is marked with a cross like on those old pirate maps.” He mocked. Luna chuckled and looked down at her hand. “And on a few occasions, you just have to let a star be your guide.” He finished, putting as much reassurance as he could in those words.
Luna noticed and smiled but Val saw that her smile didn’t reach her eyes.
At that very moment Vin got in the SUV and turned to look at them. They both looked at him, smiling broadly but he noticed their smiles weren’t reaching their eyes. Vin frowned slightly. He had a powerful sensation that something wasn’t right.
“Are you ok?” He asked Luna, concern clear in his voice.
She nodded ‘yes’ as well as Valentino. Vin narrowed his eyes in suspicion but let it go. He definitely wasn’t in the mood to start an argument with any of them. Not today.
“Ready to lose them?” He asked Luna as he fastened his seat belt.
“Always.” Luna replied, grinning. Vin looked at Val.
“You better put your seat belt on, man. She’s a bitch driving.” Vin teased, laughing hard. In response, Luna punched his arm playfully.
“Shut up, dork or I’ll let them catch you, Mr. Diesel.” Luna warned him as she started the SUV. Vin narrowed his eyes and rested his hand on her thigh, squeezing gently.
“You wouldn’t let them do that to me, babydoll. Now would you?” Vin teased, grinning wickedly. Luna narrowed her eyes.
“Call me ‘bitch’ again and you’ll find out, asshole.” She retorted, mimicking his grin.
Luna glanced down at his hand and, grinning, she put her foot on the accelerator.
Grabbing the steering wheel, she turned the car fast, making a 180 degrees’ turn, crossing both lanes, driving the car at its max power. In seconds the SUV disappeared, turning to the right at the end of the street.
Valentino laughed hard looking through the rear window. He could see the paparazzi climbing into their cars fast. Luna looked at him through the mirror.
“Hey, Val.” Luna called him. In response, Valentino turned his head to look at her. “Do you like foreplay?” She asked, grinning evilly. Val frowned, puzzled, and after a moment he nodded ‘yes’, grinning like a loony.
“I live for that, princess.” Val replied, waggling his brows.
Luna laughed as she lifted her foot from the accelerator, winking at him. The SUV slowed down.
Val knit a brow, narrowing his eyes and Vin laughed hard, stroking Luna’s thigh gently.
—————————–
“Fuck, Sully! Hurry up, man!” Mike shouted while he was starting his car. “I’ll catch them!” He added as he waited impatiently for Sully to enter the car, while he was watching how the others paparazzi were already on their way to catch Vin Diesel.
“Don’t bother, son.” Sully retorted as he lit up a cigarette, without moving a muscle. “No more pictures today for anybody, Mike. Trust me, she’s a bitch.” He added as he shook his head grinning.
