Chapter 3
“What?! Are you fucking crazy?!” Luna exclaimed, as she stood up, almost knocking over her chair. Renee grinned on the other side of the line.
“Oh, come on, Luna. I’m sick and I can’t do it.” Renee replied, coughing hard to add more realism to her performance. “Do me a favor, please, hon.” She added in a weak voice, pretending to be blowing her nose.
Valentino shot her a glance as he made himself comfortable at her side, stroking her hip. Renee gave his hand a little shove, grinning like a loony. In response Val pouted, frowning slightly, pretending to be wounded.
“But…but I don’t know shit about your job, Ren.” Luna said, arching her brows, trying not to choke on her gulp of diet coke.
If it was a matter of writing, she had no problems, but she didn’t know anything about what kind of things a personal assistant needed to do. Renee laughed silently.
“Oh, NJ. You have seen me thousands of times with Vin. It’ll be very easy. All you have to do is stick with him 24/7 during the weekend. He’s going to be working at home on that damned budget. You just have to help him with whatever he might need, that’s all.” Renee explained to Luna, trying her best not to burst into hysterical laughter as she stroked Val’s arm up and down.
Luna frowned deeply. How was she going to be with Vin Diesel the whole weekend and on top of it all in his house?!!
“But, Ren… I can’t” Renee cut her off.
“No buts. Besides, you told me that you would love to see his house, right?” Renee retorted seriously.
Luna rolled her eyes, sighing hard. That was true too, but it was one thing to dream about something and another thing completely for that dream to come true.
“Well?” She pressed Luna. In response, Luna went silent, biting her bottom lip. “That’s what I thought.” Renee added as she coughed again, winking at Val. Val grinned, shaking his head.
He didn’t want anything to do with this crazy plan of Renee’s. If Vin discovered something, he was going to be more than just mad with him. Valentino cursed himself silently. He had no idea how he had let Renee convince him to help her. Oh, well, he had an idea. That damned woman could be really persistent when she wanted something, and right now Renee wanted to cheer Luna up and damned if she wasn’t going to get it.
“Ok, Renee. I’ll do it, but only because you are my best friend.” Luna finally said, biting her lower lip. Renee’s eyes were wide open and she was grinning like a loony. “And…because it’s Vin Diesel.” She added, laughing.
“Great!” Renee replied as she entwined her fingers with Val’s. “Meet him at his office at twelve. Talk to you on Monday, have a nice weekend, my love.” She added and hung up the phone, laughing aloud.
Valentino laughed with her, pulling Renee to him. She made herself comfortable in his lap, encircling his neck.
“I can’t believe what you just did, princesa.” Valentino said, grinning.
Renee bent her head, capturing his lips in a passionate kiss, demanding his surrender. In response, Val obliged while grabbing her bottom, pressing her even closer to him. When they parted lips, Renee grinned evilly.
“She’s going to be ok. You’ll see.” She said, sighing hard. Val narrowed his eyes.
He wasn’t so sure about that. Apart from that something was telling him that Luna wasn’t going to enjoy the weekend at all. Renee rolled her eyes.
“Listen, Vin is losing his perception of reality. He’s turning into a fucking diva more and more every day. She’s a smart woman. And my gut tells me that Luna is one of those women that are capable of getting some common sense back in his bald skull.” She explained to him, chuckling at her own words as she traced Val’s lips with her thumb. Valentino shook his head in denial.
“You cannot make two people that are not meant for each other fall in love.” Val argued with her. In response, Renee knit a brow.
“You wanna bet?” She replied, grinning devilishly.
“Why didn’t you tell her that he’s hosting one of his parties on Saturday night?” He asked, grinning as he tugged at the hem of Renee’s shirt, pulling it off of her, throwing it across the room.
“Luna is in love with Vin Diesel, the celebrity; and she needs to know Vin Diesel, the man. I mean the real Vin.” Renee answered, stroking his bare chest. “Besides, who says that they are not meant for each other?” She asked, frowning deeply. Valentino rolled his eyes, shaking his head, laughing hard. “That’s what I thought.” She added, grinning, pressing Val onto the mattress, capturing his lips one more time.
——————–
‘Five minutes to twelve,’ Luna said to herself, staring at her chrono, biting her lip. She took a deep breath and stood, gulping half of her can of diet coke in one long drag. She couldn’t believe that she was actually going to talk to Vin Diesel about other things apart from the script she was writing.
Luna entered the elevator and pressed the button to the floor where his office was located. She noticed that her hands were shaking slightly. So Luna breathed deeply and tried to relax herself.
They had only exchanged a few words in the four months she had known him. Vin was always too busy with other matters, but in spite of that he had always been cool with Luna.
She grinned, lost in thought, when she remembered an occasion in which they were both trapped inside of the elevator for around half an hour, until they were rescued. After the initial shock, they had sat on the floor and started to talk.
Flash back
“I’ve read part of the script and I have to admit that I’m impressed, you know?” Vin said as he made himself comfortable on the floor, cracking his back. Luna smiled broadly.
“Thank you, Vin.” She said as she took a seat in front of him. “It’s going to be a great story, you’ll see.” Luna added, grinning. “You’re an amazing actor, Vin. Seth’s role is going to be your best character. I’m sure of that.” Luna explained to him and Vin chuckled at her words.
“You have a lot of faith in me, huh?” Vin teased, grinning. Luna laughed softly as she stared at his chocolate brown eyes.
“Just don’t forget to say my name when you win the Oscar, ok?” Luna mocked, laughing.
In response, Vin laughed with her, shaking his head. At least there was someone who still had faith in him, even if that someone was an unknown scriptwriter. ‘How fucking ironic’, he added silently.
Luna was writing the story of a man, Seth, who had been accused of a murder that he didn’t commit. The original idea was that Seth had a slight mental defect, because when he was born, his mother had complications with the labor.
Seth’s mother was a black slave, his father was the white master of a cotton plantation, and the story took place a few years after the civil war. There was also a complicated net of dangerous secrets, passions, love, hate, treasons and vested interests. All the ingredients to make a powerful drama that smelled of success from the very first line.
Luna was completely sure that Vin Diesel was capable of playing that character, and that he would finally receive the attention and respect that he deserved as an actor. No more action movies in which the plot sucked and his only concern was to stand in front of the camera, growling, jumping, killing, shooting and showing his muscles. This was, for the first time, a real dramatic role that would lead him on to win the most prized award, the Oscar.
Luna could, without too much effort on her part, picture Vin saying his little speech in front of the Academy, thanking the wonderful people who had made his dream come true. And among them, a special mention of his scriptwriter, Luna, who was the first one to show him her support, trust and faith.
End Flash back
Luna smiled broadly, still lost in her little fantasy world when the elevator came to a stop.
When Luna moved to LA to start the script, almost immediately Alice, his secretary and Renee became her best friends. One night a week, the three women enjoyed a girl’s night, in which they clubbed around LA, laughing, teasing and making jokes under the close supervision of Michael, one of Vin Diesel’s bodyguards.
Vin had said that he didn’t want them going around without protection, and since Renee refused to go out with Valentino on her girl’s night; Vin always sent Michael, his second best after Val, with them.
When Luna reached his secretary’s desk, she smiled broadly. “Hi, Alice.” Luna said almost in a whisper. Alice looked at her grinning evilly.
“Hi, Luna. How are you, honey?” Alice asked narrowing her eyes, her voice tinted with concern when she noticed that Luna was trembling slightly.
Luna sighed hard. “I’m ok, I think.” She answered, frowning. Alice smiled broadly.
“Come on, love. He’s waiting just for you.” She teased Luna. In response, Luna grinned and rolled her green eyes.
Alice and Renee were the only two people, along with Valentino, who knew about Luna’s feelings about Vin Diesel.
Luna laughed softly, nodding yes. She then took one last deep breath, cracked the bones of her neck and firmly, she knocked on the door.
“Yeah, come in.” She heard his deep sultry voice at the other side.
Luna turned her head to Alice, biting her lower lip. In response, Alice winked at her.
“Go get him, Luna.” She teased, grinning like a loony. Luna smiled broadly and entered Vin Diesel’s office, closing the door at her back.
Vin was speaking with someone on his cell phone, frowning deeply.
“What the fuck are you talking about?” He asked annoyed, tightening his jaw.
Luna tensed at the tone of his voice. No matter how many times she had heard it; his deep voice always caused the same effect in her. A bizarre mix of fear and arousal.
Vin looked up at her and lifted a hand, signaling her to take a seat in front of him, while listening to whoever was speaking on the other side of the line. Luna moved forward and sat on the chair, making herself comfortable.
“And since when is it my concern if it fails?” He asked as he pulled out a cigarette, lighting it up.
Luna knit a brow but pretended that she hadn’t heard anything. Vin threw his pack of cigarettes to her and she caught it in mid air, pulling one out for herself. He took a long drag of his cigarette, shaking his head in disbelief.
“Look, babe. That’s your problem not mine… If you were smart enough you would have used half of your brain, sweetheart.” Vin muttered in disgust as he breathed out the smoke, giving the lighter to Luna.
Luna mouthed “thank you” and Vin grinned slightly.
“Well, you see. If it’s mine it would be a fucking miracle, babe. I was completely wasted. I wouldn’t have been able to fuck you if my life depended on it.”
Luna almost choked on the smoke of her own cigarette when she heard Vin’s words, but she managed to remain as cold as ice.
Vin chuckled as he rolled his eyes, listening to whatever the girl was saying and then he frowned deeply.
“For all I know you and your friends were all over my bodyguards almost all the fucking night. So suck it up, babe. Cause I ain’t gonna eat shit for any unknown wannabe actress.” Vin stated, hanging up the phone. Then, he cracked the bones of his neck, taking another long drag from his cigarette. “Fucking bitch…” Vin muttered under his breath, sighing hard, rubbing his forehead. Luna swallowed hard, clearing her throat.
“Are you ok, Vin?” She asked, her voice tinted with concern. Vin looked at her, nodding ‘yes’.
“Yeah. Let’s start with this. Renee told me that you’re going to be my PA during this weekend …erm…” He trailed off, frowning deeply.
He couldn’t remember her name. Vin cursed himself silently. Luna went silent, waiting for him to say her name. Vin knit a brow slowly, fixing her with a serious gaze.
Renee was right. At least he should know how his scriptwriter’s name. When he realized that Luna wasn’t going to tell him her name, he signed hard.
“I’m not good with names, you know?” Vin said and he couldn’t help but feel like shit.
Luna locked eyes with him, taking a long drag of her cigarette, blowing the smoke in front of his face. Vin cleared his throat. This woman sitting in front of him was making him feel uncomfortable in her presence, and he didn’t even know the reason why. Luna knit a brow as she tilted her head to one side. ‘What the fuck..?’ she asked herself, when realization dawned. Vin Diesel couldn’t remember her name at all.
—————————-
They had left the office and were heading directly to his house. Vin had told Luna that he was going to host a party for around forty guests at his place that night.
Luna hadn’t said a single word during the ride, but made a mental note to speak seriously with Renee about the little detail that she had left out when she had asked her to be Vin’s assistant for the weekend. She just sat inside of the car, opened her laptop and pretended Vin wasn’t there, while she had been making call after call checking that every detail Renee had anticipated was perfectly carried out.
Renee had sent a copy of her notebook to Vin by email in order to make it easier for Luna to do the job in her place.
Vin had been glancing at her, narrowing his eyes, listening to how she seemed to be more than just good at that task. Luna had supervised the extra security guards, drinks, meals, and the tent for the party that would be placed at the basketball court and every single detail she could think of to host the party. Of course, she was oblivious to the fact that it was Dave, one of Vin’s bodyguards, who was in charge of the two essential elements that were never missing in any of Vin Diesel’s parties; chicks and drugs.
Luna climbed out of the car, smiling broadly as soon as she laid eyes on Valentino. He grinned as he went to her side.
Vin followed her, frowning slightly. She had been greeting each and every one of his employees, with a permanent smile plastered on her lips. And all of them without exception seemed more than just happy to see her including his bodyguards and Val.
“Hi, Valentino.” Luna greeted him, kissing his cheek. Val kissed her, smiling.
“How are you doing, Luna?” He asked as she looked over her shoulder to find Vin fixing Luna with a serious gaze. “Is he treating you well?” Val added as he let go of Luna, turning his attention to Vin.
“I’m fine, thanks. How’s Renee?” Luna asked, her voice tinted with concern. Val looked at her puzzled for a second, until he remembered Renee’s fake cold.
“Oh, she’s…she looks like shit, but she’ll be fine in a couple of days.” Val answered, smiling wryly, suddenly feeling bad.
He didn’t want to lie to Luna, but he had no other choice. “Hi, Vin.” Val greeted Vin. In response, Vin grinned slightly.
“Hi, bro. Where’s Dave?” He asked as he moved forward, passing both of them, heading directly to the house.
Luna glanced at Vin from the corner of her eye and then she looked back at Valentino. Val smiled as he rubbed Luna’s shoulder in a friendly way.
“Come on, baby. You’re going to love the house, you’ll see. It’s not exactly how you described it in your story, but almost.” Val whispered, squeezing her upper arm gently. Luna smiled slightly and they both followed Vin inside.
Luna had been supervising so that everything was set up on time. She had phoned Renee on a couple of occasions to check a few things, but for the most part, she had done it all by herself.
Valentino had showed Luna her room and then he had told her to join them in Vin’s office.
The three of them had been talking about the locations of “Hannibal”. Luna told Vin that she knew that there was a new Studio located in Spain; it had only recently been opened and they were looking for support.
Luna thought that it would be a good occasion to talk with them and see if they would be interested in starting negotiations with One Race to shoot parts of the movie at their facilities.
Vin had arched his brows in amusement. That would be a more than just a great way to lower the damned budget, and at the same time he would be able to shoot part of the movie in one of the real location where Hannibal had been. Then he had asked Luna if she would speak with them. At the end she was Spanish too.
Luna had smiled broadly and had answered that it would be no problem. Afterward, Valentino said his good byes and returned to Renee’s side, saying that he had to take care of his “princesa”. Vin and Luna had laughed with him and then, they had parted ways.
Everything was ready for the party to start. Luna was a little nervous. She had read many things about those parties on the Internet, but tonight she was going to have the opportunity to be an exceptional witness to one of Vin Diesel’s infamous wild parties.
